Embarking on Mythical Adventures:

In our creative journey, we carefully choose themes for each project, and this time, we set our sights on the enchanting world of Ukrainian mythology. In a world where Slavic beliefs have faded, we find comfort in the preserved folklore, aiming to bring ancient tales to life.

Mavka, the Enigmatic Muse:

Our exploration of mythical realms led us to mavkas, witches, and molfars—figures in Slavic folklore. Among them, we’re drawn to mavka, a mysterious creature dancing between a dryad and a siren. Mavkas, souls of unbaptized or drowned girls, wear a tragic aura. Green-haired and almost undressed, their image hides a darker secret—the absence of a back, a feature both haunting and demonic.

Our interpretation simplifies the mavka’s image, focusing on the awareness of her fate. In our narrative, a beautiful girl becomes a mavka due to an evil witch’s envy, granting her a diabolical power.

The Witch’s Power and Wickedness:

In Ukrainian mythology, the witch, unlike the mavka, lacks a tragic history. Our portrayal aligns with a more “classic” view, revealing their compelling power.

In traditional Ukrainian folklore there are stories of Starfall —a phenomena born when witches, wielding otherworldly power, steal stars from the sky, believed to be the souls of people. The strength of witches, formidable and unafraid, is undeniable, yet their exit from this world demands the transfer of power to another—a twist that forms the linchpin of our tale.

The Molfar’s Intervention:

In our game, the destinies of the witch and mavka intertwine, presenting players with moral dilemmas. An old molfar, a supernatural figure, emerges as a beacon of hope. Molfars, revered in Ukrainian Hutsul culture, are men with supernatural prowess. Masters of dream solving, divination, weather manipulation, and healing, they hold a unique power—the ability to lift curses without seeking recompense.

(We want to tell you about an interesting fact – the molfar’s intriguing connection to the witch. A sorcerer, as a witch, cannot depart this world silently without passing on their power. This duty arises from the belief that carrying witchcraft into the afterlife is a grave sin.)

In our story, he decides in the concoction of a magic potion to free the girl from the clutches of the wicked witch. So he becomes an ally to the mavka.

A Classic Tale of Light and Dark:

Our narrative follows the classic clash between “dark” and “light” forces anchored by an ordinary girl. Her innocence becomes a poignant catalyst, inspiring compassion. The molfar, embodying unselfish help, offers a glimmer of hope, while the malevolence of the evil witch unfolds as a typical villainess seeking solace at the expense of others.
